Spider Diary Special - Meet Tenebrus SEP 06 PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 02 August 2006

Welcome to this special spider diaries update. I've popped in quickly to tell you all about my latest small arrival...

Tenebrus is a Sun tiger spider hailing originally from the forested foothills of Venezuela. Currently a 1 cm CB spiderling, she will grow very quickly into a 6" spider with beautiful orange chevrons over a velvet black abdomen. Awesome looking spiders at all stages of life, I heartily look forward to watching her grow, and looking after her...

This is what she'll look like when she grows up...

What a smooth transfer that was - straight out of her postal container, no stress at all, and into her new home with absolutely no fuss and bother whatsoever. Another solid point for the theory that slings do absolutely fine in the post. This was not a stressed animal.

I have researched the species at length, and was expecting a little demon nightmare spider to come charging out at me, but not a bit of it - thoroughly charming little animal all round I'd say...

She even sat still for the token couple of arrival photos I can share with you all now... they're not very good, I'm afraid, but then she's really very small, and thats my excuse for now :)

So there she is, a second after having walked nicely into her new home.

Here's a wider view of her enclosure...

Of course, as soon as I got the lid on, thats the last I've seen of her since, despite my ever vigilant webcam, and me watching it fairly constantly to see what she gets up to. Assuming she hasn't escaped, hiding is good, and means I have set up her enclosure to her liking if she can instantly find places to go and feel safe. Good old cork bark saves the day again !

The September Diary is already in the final stages, and should be up on time, 1st Sep... hopefully, I shall see you then...
