ZBD does lunch... PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 06 August 2006

This video is one of those perfect of examples of the fact that nature does its own thing in its own time. Here, specifically, it does it when I am making a cup of tea, and not recording it ! Due to my extremely fat lazy spider, the locust had been in the tank for a good 40 minutes before she showed the slightest bit of interest. I go off to make the tea, and by the time I get back she's eating it !

So here we see Zebs just having caught herself this week's lunch. Today, that was a large 2" adult locust, which made no effort to escape whatsoever, and was a creepy crawly that I have been feeding up for nearly a month.

We can see she spins a feeding mat, but I know her, and she won't really use it, preferring, as she does, to stay in that raised position until there are only legs left - perhaps 20 hours later or so... Notice the movements she makes are sort of jerky - this I have noticed in other Acanthoscurria, specifically the larger of them, so I attribute it to their massive bulk.
