This video is one of those perfect of examples of the fact that nature does its own thing in its own time. Here, specifically, it does it when I am making a cup of tea, and not recording it ! Due to my extremely fat lazy spider, the locust had been in the tank for a good 40 minutes before she showed the slightest bit of interest. I go off to make the tea, and by the time I get back she's eating it ! So here we see Zebs just having caught herself this week's lunch. Today, that was a large 2" adult locust, which made no effort to escape whatsoever, and was a creepy crawly that I have been feeding up for nearly a month.
We can see she spins a feeding mat, but I know her, and she won't really use it, preferring, as she does, to stay in that raised position until there are only legs left - perhaps 20 hours later or so... Notice the movements she makes are sort of jerky - this I have noticed in other Acanthoscurria, specifically the larger of them, so I attribute it to their massive bulk. |
