Are your spiders venomous ? Are they dangerous ?
Yes - all of them use venom to kill, and digest their prey, and a tarantula without venom is either dead now, or will be shortly. However, most are not dangerous to humans, and a bite is likely to prove no worse than the average bee sting. There are exceptions: 'Legz', my poecilotheria sling has very potent venom, as all the tree dwelling old-world spiders do, and these have the potential to cause some serious problems. There have been reports of excruciating muscle cramps present months after the bite, and the same reports suggest breathing difficulties, and coronary problems were temporary symptoms. The key here must surely be not to get bitten in the first place... |
