Hey there people

Took this one today, not only because I thought she was sitting there looking fantastic munching on a baby cricket, but also because we can see the first of her adult colouring coming through...

Some of you may have wondered why she is called a Salmon pink Birdeater, when up until now, she has only ever been pale brown, or grey, and as far as I know, hasn't eaten any birds...

Well - the salmon pink bit refers to her leg joints, and abdominal hairs, which there will be lots more of as she gets older. So she will appear velvety deep black but covered in vibrant pink hairs that are lovely to look at, but the also the most irritating to humans of any spiders. So swings and roundabouts, hey :)

Attached is a photo that shows all this coming through nicely. Compare, if you will the size of her opisthosoma (the back bit) with what it was when she moulted - more than double the size. It is beginning to go dark all over again, which indicates moult no 8 is on the way, but its still some way off because she's still eating like a total pig. 4 adult crickets, and 2 babies a week on average now. That's a damn site more than Ginny and Zebs eat, and they are 4 times her size...

And I have to note her increased aggression recently - every time I filled her water bowl recently, she has legged it over, and launched a full scale attack on the water until some 10 seconds later she realises that it isn't alive... another vote goes in the bin for spiders having great eyesight...

Ok - that's it for now til Binksters next moults, hopefully in time for xmas or new year...

Take it easy...
